Update:
In the early morning hours of Oct. 21, 2020, uniform officers and detectives from the 2 District office of the Niagara Regional Police Service conducted an investigation into the assault of a man and woman in Niagara Falls on Ferguson Avenue.
On Oct. 21, 2020 at approximately 7 p.m., officers located Layton Stevens in a house on Church's Lane near Portage Road. Stevens exited the house and surrendered to officers without incident and was arrested.
Stevens is being held in custody for a video bail hearing on Oct. 22, 2020 at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.

Original Oct. 21 release:
On Oct. 21, 2020 at approximately 2:45 a.m., 2 District Niagara Falls uniform officers responded to a report of a serious assault in the area of Ferguson Avenue and Hickson Avenue in Niagara Falls.
Officers arrived on scene and conducted their initial investigation. Officers determined that a suspect male had attended the address and assaulted a female. A male bystander tried to come to the aid of the female assault victim. The suspect male subsequently armed himself with a metal pipe and beat the male bystander.
The suspect fled the scene in a car.
Niagara Emergency Medical Services Paramedics attended and assessed both victims. The female victim was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The male victim was transported from the scene by paramedics in critical condition. He was subsequently transported to an out of region hospital where he remains in serious condition.
The investigation has been taken over by 2 District detectives. The suspect in this matter has been identified.
Layton Noel Stevens (35 years old) of Niagara Falls is wanted for the criminal offences of:
• Assault
• Aggravated assault
Stevens is described as:
• White
• 5'11 feet tall
• Approximately 190 lbs, with a medium fit build
• Brown hair, eyes and facial hair
• Tattoos - Right arm sleeve - Blue Jays
Detectives believe Stevens is purposely evading arrest. His current location is unknown.
