Arrest made after shot fired in St. Catharines

At approximately 8:15 p.m. on Sunday, May 10, 2020, 1 District (St. Catharines) uniform officers were called to the area of Hamilton Street and Pelham Road in the City of St. Catharines following the report of a gunshot.

When officers arrived they located a male victim who was uninjured. Shortly after, a second male was located and arrested near the scene.

Investigation by officers with the 1 District Detective Office has revealed that two males were involved in an altercation when one of the males produced a gun and fired a shot in the direction of the other male.

Twenty-six-year-old Martin Phillip is facing the following alleged charges:
    •    Pointing a firearm contrary to section 87(1)of the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Discharge firearm with intent to endanger life contrary to section 244(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Unauthorized possession of a firearm contrary to section 91(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada

Phillip is currently being held in custody pending a bail hearing via video link at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse on Monday, May 11, 2020 in the City of St. Catharines.
