Arrest made after $9K in jewelry, comic books reported stolen

On Jan. 2, 2021, 2 District – Niagara Falls uniform officers responded to a report of a residential break and enter in Niagara Falls in the area of Summer Street and Main Street.

The initial investigation by the officers determined that a suspect broke into the home and stole jewelry and collectable comic books. The value of the stolen property was estimated at over $9,000.

The break and enter investigation was assigned to detectives from the 2 District Street Crime Unit. Detectives learned the suspect was trying to sell the collectable comic books locally.

On Jan. 13, 2021, detectives met with the male suspect at a service centre in the area of the South Service Road and Industrial Drive in Grimsby. The suspect was arrested by detectives after a short foot pursuit.

After his arrest, a search of the accused and his car located a prohibited weapon, illegal drugs, and stolen property.

Devon Clements-Hillier (25 years old) of Haldimand is charged with the criminal offences of:
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime over – sec. 348(1)(a) CC
    •    Trafficking property obtained by crime – sec. 355.2 CC
    •    Unauthorized possession of a weapon – sec. 91(2) CC
    •    Carrying concealed weapon – sec. 90 (1) CC
    •    Possession of a schedule I substance (crystal methamphetamine) – sec. 4(1) CDSA
    •    Possession of a schedule I substance (MDMA) – sec. 4(1) CDSA
    •    Possession of proceeds of crime – sec. 355(b) CC
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime under – sec. 348(1)(b) CC

Clements-Hillier was held in custody to attend a video bail hearing at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse on Jan. 14, 2021.
