Additional charges for St. Catharines man previously arrested for sexual assault

He and the victim were both Brock U students at the time of the assault, police say

May 2, 2019 update

On May 1, 2019, detectives from the Niagara Regional Police Sexual Assault Unit arrested 30-year-old Mohamed Abdi Ali. 

Since February, detectives have been investigating a new allegation of sexual assault. The sexual assault is alleged to have occurred in 2017 involving a 21-year-old female. The female victim and Mohamed Abdi Ali were known to each other and were both Brock University students at the time.

Mohamed Abdi Ali (30 years old) of St. Catharines is charged with the alleged offence of:

  • Sexual assault (2 counts)

Ali will attend a bail hearing on May 2, 2019 at the Robert. S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.

Original release 

In January of 2019, members of the Niagara Regional Police Service Sexual Assault Unit entered into an investigation regarding an allegation of a sexual assault that had occurred in the City of St Catharines involving a member of the Board of Directors of the Brock University Student Union.

As a result of the investigation; on Jan. 23, 2019 detectives arrested 30-year-old Mohamed Abdi Ali and charged him with one count of sexual assault. Ali will be attending a bail hearing on Jan. 24, 2019.
