A R.I.D.E. campaign checkpoint within the City of Niagara Falls during the New Year's Eve celebrations was conducted by Niagara Regional Police. In total, approximately 320 vehicles entered the checkpoint and each of the drivers were questioned regarding any consumption of alcohol or drugs earlier in the night.
Officers were glad to see that there were a high number of designated drivers and only a handful of drivers admitted to consuming alcohol. These drivers were requested to provide a sample of their breath for analysis and each of them received acceptable results.
Once again officers randomly selected vehicles to pull over who entered the R.I.D.E. checkpoint. These drivers also provided samples of their breath for analysis and each of them provided results in the acceptable range.
The completion of the New Year's Eve R.I.D.E. caps off another Festive R.I.D.E season in Niagara. The Niagara Regional Police would like to remind all drivers to not drive impaired and find alternative means of transportation if they decide to consume alcohol or cannabis.
The Niagara Regional Police remains committed to reducing impaired driving offences through education and the apprehension of offenders through enforcement programs like R.I.D.E. Impaired driving is still the leading criminal offence causing deaths in Canada.
