17-year-old charged after assault victim suffers life-threatening injuries

On Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019 at approximately 9:15 p.m., 2 District (Niagara Falls) uniform officers attended a residence in the area of Huggins Street and Gainsborough Avenue in Niagara Falls in response to a serious assault that had just occurred.

When officers arrived they discovered a 52-year-old male had been assaulted with a weapon, sustaining life-threatening injuries. A male youth who was known by the victim had fled the scene prior to their arrival.

Following an investigation, the youth was located, arrested and charged.

The 52-year-old victim remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The 17-year-old male is facing the following alleged charge:
    •    aggravated assault contrary to Section 268(1) CC

The youth is currently being held in custody pending a bail hearing on Jan. 30, 2019 at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.

The 17-year-old male cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
