16-year-old succumbs to injuries sustained in Thorold house fire

Update one - April 21, 2020

The investigation into the cause of the April 18, 2020, house fire on Maitland Street in Thorold remains ongoing. 

The Niagara Regional Police can confirm that the Thorold teen rescued from the fire scene has died in hospital on April 20, 2020, due to injuries related to the fire. 

NRPS 1 District – St. Catharines detectives are working with the offices of the Ontario Fire Marshall and Coroner. Anyone who may information is asked to contact detectives at 905-688-4111, ext. 4233.

Original release - April 18, 2020

At approximately 11 a.m. on Saturday April 18, 2020 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) uniform officers were called to the area of Maitland St and Colborne St in the City of Thorold following the report of a house fire.

A 16-year-old person was located inside the home with critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment before being taken to an out of town hospital. 

A 70-year-old female was also transported to hospital for treatment of minor physical injuries.

This incident remains under investigation by officers from 1 District detective office in cooperation with the Ontario Fire Marshall.
