Canadian teams finish third at Diving World Series event

BEIJING — Canada captured two bronze medals on the first day of the second FINA Diving World Series event of the season on Thursday.

Meaghan Benfeito of Montreal and Caeli McKay of Calgary teamed up to finish third in the women's 10-metre synchro platform, while Montreal's Philippe Gagne and Francois Imbeau-Dulac of St-Lazare, Que., took bronze in the men's three-metre synchro springboard.

Benfeito and McKay also won bronze at last week's World Series opener in Sagamihara, Japan.

McKay wasn't overly pleased with the most recent performance.

"I think today was a big milestone in our career together, our new goal now is if we're going to have a bad day we still miss for third," she said. "Our last dive, Meg missed a little bit but we were still able to come out with a medal."

Wei Lu and Jiaqi Zhang of China won gold, while A Rim Kim and Mi Rae Kim of North Korea took silver.

Gagne and Imbeau-Dulac reached the podium after finishing fourth last week.

"It was a very good day, we were very consistent," said Imbeau-Dulac.

Yuan Cao and Siyi Xie of China finished first, while Mexico's Jahir Ocampo Marroquin and Rommel Pacheco Marrufo were second.

In the women's three-metre synchro springboard, Jennifer Abel of Laval, Que., and Melissa Citrini-Beaulieu of Saint-Constant, Que., were sixth.
