Win puts River Lions atop standings at halfway mark

Another home victory for the league-leading River Lions

River Lions report submitted by Stephen Dyell, ThoroldNews:

All-around team effort paved the way for another home victory as the Niagara River Lions defeated the Hamilton Honey Badgers 108-96 Wednesday night.

The Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) league leader in blocks, Samuel Muldrow once again was a force on the defensive end. Three blocks and countless deflections help keep away a hungry Hamilton team looking to knock off Niagara for the second time this season.

Captain Ryan Anderson hit a season-high seven three-pointers to finish the game with 25 points. Niagara as a team hit 13 total threes compared to Hamilton's eight.

Dorian Pinson scored 14 points while Guillaume Payen-Boucard finished with a double-double.

Honey Badgers' Demetrius Denzel-Dyson scored a team-high 20 points. Former River Lion Ryan Ejim finished with 16 points.

The game marked the halfway point of the CEBL season with Niagara sitting atop the standings at 9-2 and remaining undefeated at home. They've also have held opponents to under 100 points in every game except two and have scored at least 99 in the same amount.

Despite the high-powered offence, Niagara has no players in the top five in scoring in the CEBL, relying on multiple scorers. That depth has created an even more dangerous team as the playoffs creep closer.

Next up, the River Lions head into Edmonton on June 28 before returning home on July 5 against the Saskatchewan Rattlers.
