ST. CATHARINES  – The Niagara River Lions announced today that 24-year-old point guard, Trae Bell-Haynes has re-signed with the team for the 2020 season. He is currently playing for the Helsinki Seaguls of the Finnish Korisliga, Finland’s top tier basketball league. Bell-Haynes also suited up for the Senior Men’s National Team during the FIBA AmeriCup 2021 Qualifiers last month in a series of games versus the Dominican Republic.

Bell-Haynes averaged 12.7 points and 4.0 assists per game during the 2019 season and was one of seven players to sign an Option Letter in September which declared mutual intent to return to Niagara for the league’s second season.

“I’m thrilled to have Trae back with us this summer. He’s one of the best point guards in Canada and he’s a phenomenal young man,” said Head Coach & General Manager Victor Raso. “Trae relentlessly works on his game and the growth I’ve seen in him since he arrived in Niagara last summer has been impressive. It’s important for our program that players like Trae see the value in playing in Niagara and I’m excited to help further his career again this summer.”

Prior to Bell-Haynes professional career, he spent all four years of college basketball with the University of Vermont, NCAA Division 1 school earning several accolades along the way.

After concluding his college career, Bell-Haynes wasted no time amassing an impressive amount of pro basketball experience. Bell-Haynes spent the summer of 2018 playing for the Milwaukee Bucks Summer League team and went on to play for the Frankfurt Skyliners of the German Bundesliga Basketball League. Prior to signing with the River Lions in 2019, he played eight games with the Wisconsin Herd of the NBA G-League.

“I’m excited to have another chance to work with Victor and the rest of the River Lions staff this summer,” continued Bell-Haynes, “I felt like I made huge strides personally last summer and hope to do the same again. Go River Lions!”

The 2020 season will tip-off when the River Lions take on expansion franchise the Ottawa BlackJacks on May 7th. Season tickets, voucher packs, “marquee matchup” packs and group tickets are on sale now. Single game tickets are set to go on sale March 18.
