Thorns scuttle Anchors in playoff opener

Game two in the playoffs is Sunday night in Welland.

It was all Welland City Thorns in the senior men's baseball playoff opener.

The Thorold Anchors hosted the Thorns at McMillan Park and suffered a 20-8 loss at the hands of the visitors.

The Thorns jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first inning and cruised to victory from there. 

Russ McKeown was the lone star for the Anchors, managing three hits in four visits to the plate and two RBIs on the night.

Welland out-hit Thorold by a 15-9 margin and Thorold committed seven errors to hamper their own effort.

Welland got three hits, three runs and three RBIs from Jay Falardeau while Matt Roy led the team with six RBIs on two hits.

The winning pitcher for the Thorns was Travis Doyle.

The next game is at the Welland Stadium, 90 Quaker Rd. in North Welland. Game time is 7:30.
