Spartans couldn't sustain first half momentum (5 photos)

The Spartans came flying out of the gate last night against the visiting Niagara Thunderhawks in Jr. B Lacrosse action in Thorold.

The Spartans jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first period as Connor Aquanno scored and Tyler Kolodka added two goals. Christian Watts added one for the Thunderhawks before the period ended.

In the second period the Spartans added two more to take a 5-1 lead on goals by Alex Gaston and another by Aquanno.

But then the wheels fell off and the Thunderhawks stormed back with six unanswered goals.  

Kolodka added one before the Thunderhawks scored two more. 

Ben Katzman scored the final goal of the night for the Spartans but the game ended in a 9-7 win for the Thunderhawks.

At one point in the third period the Thunderhawks scored two short handed goals destroying a five-minute power play for the Spartans. 

Nathan Maloney had four points, two goals and two assists, for the Thunderhawks.

Kolodka had five points for the Spartans getting three goals and two assists on the night. Aquanno had four points on two goals and two assists.

Goalie Andrew Kidd made several key stops in the first period for the Spartans but took the loss allowing nine goals and making 35 saves on 44 shots.
