The Niagara River Lions announced today that Florence, South Carolina native, Sam Muldrow has re-signed with the team for the 2020 season. Muldrow, the six-foot-10 forward, is the longest tenured River Lion, having played with the team since their inaugural season in 2016.

Named the 2019 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) Defensive Player of the Year, Muldrow averaged 9.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.9 blocks through all 21 games he started in. He registered a CEBL-record eight blocks during a game versus the Fraser Valley Bandits and was one of seven players to sign an Option Letter in September which declared mutual intent to return to Niagara. Of the seven players, five have re-signed to date.

“Sam was a major contributor for us last season and has been playing excellent basketball since then,” said Head Coach and General Manager Victor Raso. “Sam is known for his shot blocking, but I am more impressed by his understanding of how to be a great overall defender at his position. He is a high IQ guy, a great shooter, and he brings a quiet toughness that his teammates embrace. On top of that, he’s the longest running River Lion in our history, and I’m excited for Sam to continue to play in front of our great fans!”

Prior to Muldrow’s professional career, he played 4 years at University of South Carolina where he was named the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Defensive Player of the Year in 2011. His professional career has taken him across the world having played in Greece, Ukraine, Lithuania, Germany, France, and Australia and ultimately ending up in Canada.

“Over the past several years, Niagara has become my home,” said Muldrow. “I am excited to get back with the team and work towards bringing a championship back to Niagara, one that the team, staff and fans all deserve!”

The Niagara River Lions are scheduled to tip-off the season at home on May 7 versus expansion franchise, the Ottawa BlackJacks. Season tickets, voucher packs, “marquee matchup” packs, group tickets and single game tickets are on sale now.
