After a great start to 2019, the Thorold Blackhawks dropped a heartbreaker to the last-place Lockport Regals in Jr. B hockey action last night.

The Hawks outshot the visiting Regals by a 46-26 margin but lost the battle where it counted - on the scoreboard.

The teams exchanged goals in the first period with Thorold getting on the board on a goal by Mario Zitella but Lockport tied it late in the period on a goal by AJ Marinelli.

In the second period it was all Lockport. Russ Riggio, Alex Stinis and another by Marinelli gave the Regals a 4-1 at the second intermission.

In the third period the teams once again exchanged goals, scoring two each. Trevor Neumann scored both Thorold goals while Erich Thur and Hunter Litman scored for Lockport as the game ended in a 6-3 victory for the Regals.

Noah Fortuna allowed 6 goals on 26 shots to take the loss. Anthony Santarosa blocked 43 of 46 shots to get the win for the Regals.

Power plays were even with Thorold scoring on one of six chances while the Regals managed no power play goals on six attempts.

Thorold’s Neumann had three points and was named the game’s first star while Marinelli and Santarosa picked up second and third star honours for the Regals.
