Hamilton steals barnburner

Thorold was 55 seconds away from victory

Junior B fans were treated to a nail-biter last night in the Thorold Frank Doherty Arena.

It took until the second overtime for the visiting Hamilton Kilty B’s to steal a victory from the Thorold Jr. B Blackhawks.

The first period ended with no scoring but in the second each team scored three times. Five of the goals were on power plays with Thorold getting two and Hamilton netting three.

In the third period Thorold took a 4-3 lead on a goal by Patrick McCluskey midway through the frame. But with the goalie pulled for an extra attacker and less than minute to go, Marc Shannon got his third goal of the night for Hamilton to send the game into overtime.

The first overtime failed to settle the score but in the second overtime, on a penalty shot, Marino Moro gave the Kilty B’s the win.

Also scoring for Thorold were Sam VanderZalm, Trevor Neumann, and Dylan Latty.

Shannon was named the game's first star.

Marco Constantino got the win in the Hamilton goal while Noah Fortuna made 39 saves for Thorold but ended up taking the loss.

Thorold’s VanderZalm and McCluskey were named second and third game stars.
