Fortuna backstops Thorold to win

The Thorold Blackhawks stole a win last night against perennial power house Niagara Falls Canucks in Jr. B action.

The Falls outshot Thorold by a 44-29 margin but the Hawks took a 4-2 win as goalie Noah Fortuna stopped 42 shots.

Thorold had a 3-0 lead at the end of the first period on the strength of goals by Brad Ditillio and Carson Eden with two. Thorold’s Riley Sutherland scored the only goal of the second period to give the Hawks a 4-0 lead at the end of two periods.

The Canucks made it close in the third as Andrew Bruno notched a pair of goals for the visitors.

The fourth-place Blackhawks gained ground on the Canucks who currently sit in third place in the Golden Horseshoe conference. 

The Hawks are home to St. Catharines on Thursday, Oct. 3. Game time is 7:07 p.m.
