Falcons outmanoeuvre Hawks

Hawks drop below .500 on the season

The St. Catharines Falcons came to Thorold last night to face the Blackhawks in Jr. B action. 

The first period ended knotted at one goal apiece but it was all Falcons after that as they skated to a 6-1 win. The fifth-place Hawks missed a chance to gain ground on the fourth-place St. Catharines team. Caledonia sits in first place with nine wins in 10 games.

The Falcons dominated, outshooting the Hawks by a 41-14 margin. Noah Fortuna took the loss in the Thorold goal after allowing five goals on 30 shots. Chase Grsic took over in the third and allowed one goal on 11 shots.

Cam Lightfoot scored his first goal of the season and Thorold’s only goal of the night with assists from Sam VanderZalm and Blair Jenkins.

Carson Edwardson picked up a hat trick for the Falcons and added a pair of assists, for a five-point night, earning him a first star nod.

The game also featured 104 minutes in penalties with Thorold guilty of the bulk at 63 minutes.

Thorold will host Buffalo next Thursday, Oct. 10 at 7:07 p.m.
