Woodstock, Thorold style (12 photos)

Celebrating its 50th anniversary, the spirit of Woodstock was alive and well in downtown Thorold this weekend

A Woodstock revival wave washed over downtown Thorold yesterday, where flower children of all ages flashed peace signs while listening to tunes from the iconic 1969 music festival.

Audience and performers alike arrived in hippie garb, and the outdoor patio at Donnelly’s Pub contained a colourful sea of tie-dye.

Brant Parker, who leads the establishment’s house band, did a dead-on Joe Cocker rendition of A Little Help from My Friends, followed by Jimi Hendrix’s Voodoo Chile.

Backed by guitar great Brad Krauss—also from Donnelly’s house band, Sue Thibert from Oh Canada, Eh, wowed the crowds and received standing ovations for her Joan Baez medley, as did Janis Joplin and Grace Slick tribute artist, Angela Seeger.

Mike McDonald, who actually attended the original Woodstock festival, performed songs of CCR; Josh Miller did a tune from Canned Heat, and Kevin Galway provided a colourful opening to the afternoon—complete with authentic Woodstock dialogue—while performing as Country Joe McDonald.

Next up, a Motown salute is scheduled to appear on the pub's stage on Sept. 2.
