With a seniors' and veterans' luncheon yesterday and an awards ceremony tonight, Legion Week is winding down at Branch 17 in Thorold. Featured events at the Legion were aimed at inviting the public to attend the "new" Legion. The doors are always open and the public is invited to attend the many functions now being presented by this long-time community hub.

At the Thursday afternoon luncheon Legion president Eric Cuthbert told the Thorold News, “We used to have a Veterans' Day and a Seniors' Day to thank them for everything they’ve done. It was another way to honour the veterans and it was a way to open the Legion to the public. Now, with the dwindling number of veterans we combined the two events during Legion Week.”

Glenn Kempson noted the good turnout at the lunch and said, “This is a good event with good food and good friends. And we’re looking forward to the awards ceremony.”

Tonight, awards will be given out to Thorold Legion supporters in the upstairs hall, with wine and cheese to follow in the downstairs lounge, starting at 7 p.m.
