Unbeatable deals at Spring Book & Bake Sale

St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church will hold a "fill-a-bag" Book and Bake Sale on Saturday, April 27.

Stock up for your summer reading, at a rate you can’t refuse.

According to organizer Shaunna MacQuarrie, everyone who attends the St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church’s Book and Bake Sale on Saturday, April 27 will receive an empty bag when they enter the church hall. All they have to do is browse, fill it with books of their choice, and make a donation.

“Typically, our fundraisers go to the ministry of the church, and things we wanted to do in the community,” she explained. For this event, “Ladies in the church wanted to focus on two goals: to build our own connection with our church family and friends, and to build connection with our community” at-large. “We just want to get to know our community and let them know we are here to have fun.”

“We’ve been collecting books from all over Niagara,” she added. “Most are fiction or non-fiction, pocket books and hard cover,” and there will be plenty of children’s books as well.”

The book sale runs from 9 to 11:30 a.m., and will also feature a sale of delicious home baking.

People who are looking to free up some room on their bookshelves can call 905-325-3649 to arrange book donation drop-offs or pick-ups. If there are any books left over from the sale, they’ll be put to good use, said MacQuarrie, a former English teacher.

“We have been given a green light to start a Little Free Library with a stand on our (church) property—the first one in Thorold. Why not continue all year round with blessing people with the books if they can’t afford them?”

Designed to encourage literacy among readers of all ages—including children—the worldwide Little Free Library movement offers free books placed in enclosed bookcases in outdoor public places for everyone to enjoy (for more information, visit www.littlefreelibrary.org).

St. Andrew’s Church is located at 24 Clairmont Street, on the corner of Clairmont and Ormond St. in Thorold.
