Today, the Thorold News has a new format, a new partner and a reaffirmed commitment to providing the most comprehensive local news.

The Thorold News joins Village Media's ever-expanding network of local news sites. The collaboration with Village Media will mark a change in Thorold News' delivery of local news, bringing it from a weekly to an hourly, with news being posted as it happens.

Village Media currently has 11 owned and operated sites, and it brings the growing number of markets where Village Media operates, inclusive of partners, to a total of 19 across the country. The Thorold News and Village Media share a philosophy of investing in and supporting local communities through advertising opportunities and event sponsorships.

“This partnership is very exciting for us and for Thorold, because content, delivery system and advertiser services are all improved,” said Thorold News editor Bob Liddycoat. “Our current team will stay on to provide all the local editorial content. Village Media brings to the table a trained sales staff and state-of-the art-website. Advertisers will gain comprehensive tracking and analytics not currently available."

“Village Media is a born-digital news network, with sites across Ontario, and partner sites across the country. We've been embraced by our communities and found success because we focus on local. We love telling your stories, we care about our neighbours, and we want to see our communities succeed,” said Jeff Elgie, president and CEO of Village Media.

“And that philosophy is why we know this merger will take the Thorold News to the pinnacle of digital news providers. Our multi-award-winning editorial staff now has access to the very best news delivery system available today,” added Liddycoat.

Village Media includes the news sites SooToday.com, GuelphToday.com, BarrieToday.com, BayToday.ca, ElliotLakeToday.com, TimminsToday.com, OrilliaMatters.com, CollingwoodToday.ca, and BradfordToday.ca, and has strategic partnerships with Sudbury.com in Sudbury, TBNewswatch.com in Thunder Bay, the Manitoulin Expositor; Rogers Media in Halifax (HalifaxToday.ca), Ottawa (OttawaMatters.com) and Kitchener (KitchenerToday.com); and Glacier Media in British Columbia (KamloopsMatters.com, PrinceGeorgeMatters.com).
