Thorold catches garage sale fever (4 photos)

Bargain hunters came out in full force Saturday, enticed by Thorold-wide garage sales

Beautiful weather brought bargain hunters out in full force Saturday, enticed by 98 registered host homes that took part in Thorold’s 16th annual Community-Wide Garage Sale.

Organizer Craig Finlay had feared that the current Thorold Tunnel lane closure would result in fewer shoppers making the trek from rural areas to urban Thorold, but said that traffic remained steady from what he saw, among the sale sites in his neighbourhood.

Hosting his own garage sale near downtown Thorold, he found treasure hunters on his front lawn bright and early, and sold “A ton of stuff from 7 to 7:15 a.m.” he told the Thorold News, adding that, in his opinion, “Great weather was the deciding factor” for this year's successful sale day.

The annual event acts as a catalyst for Thorold tourism, said Finlay, with people coming from all across Ontario each year to scour the city for deals and discounts.
