The Thorold Midget Athletics have been relegated to the consolation round in baseball playoffs.

The Athletics took game one against West Niagara but fell to St. Catharines by an 11-8 score last night in Burgar Park, Welland.

Thorold was leading into the sixth inning by a 7-6 score but couldn't hang on as St. Catharines scored five runs in the top of the sixth and Thorold managed only one in the bottom of the sixth (final) inning.

Josh Larocque tool the loss on the mound for Thorold, allowing five runs in relief after started Kyle D'Angela left the game with the lead.

For Thorold, Tyler Farris had a triple, D'Angela had two singles while Ethan Jesik and Larocque had a single and a walk at the plate. Kenny O'Brien reached base twice on a double and hit by a pitch.

Thorold will now play in the consolation round. The winner of that round will finish third.
