With school looming on the horizon, parents are pondering where to stock up on school supplies.

But for some, it can present a problem.

To help families who are living below the poverty line, Thorold Auto Parts & Recyclers has been stockpiling needed items for school children.

In conjunction with Project Share, the Back-to-School Supply Drive will continue at the Thorold South auto parts facility on weekdays until Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Anyone who wishes to contribute is asked to drop off the following new items at TAP, located at 1108 Beaverdams Road, either today, Monday or Tuesday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Backpacks, lunch bags, reusable water bottles, new running shoes (all sizes), nut-free snacks, calculators, markers, pencil crayons, pens, pencils, notebooks and scissors are all needed.

Struggling families will then be able to visit Project Share to obtain the required school supplies for their school-aged children living below the poverty line in Niagara Falls in late August, while supplies last and all donations are distributed. Project SHARE is located at 4129 Stanley Ave, Unit 2, in Niagara Falls.

In Thorold, the Niagara Region 2019 - CAPC Niagara Brighter Futures program, a drop-in for families with children aged from 0 to 6, will have backpacks with school supplies available in August (as supplies last), to registered participants in the program. For program times and locations, contact Courtney at 905-714-0227, ext 239.

In any city, a client may contact the child’s school principal to see if they can help with a backpack or school supplies. The schools may have access to support from several different organizations, such as the United Way, or the Education Foundation.
