The Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) Communities Together Fund (CTF) gives employees the opportunity to select causes within their own communities to support both financially and through volunteer service.

This month, on April 19, one of Bethesda’s supported living homes called “Sunnylea” will get a garden makeover thanks to 12 RBC volunteers and financial planners from Niagara.

Bethesda’s Supported Living services provide housing along with the required level of care for adults with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities across the Niagara Region.

“Bethesda is thrilled to have the support of RBC staff and grateful for their hands-on approach to giving back to the community,” said Bethesda CEO Paul McGowan.

“We understand the value of collaborating with our community partners and look forward to new partnerships like this in the future. Both staff and the individuals we support take pride in their homes, and having additional helping hands as we head into spring is a welcome boost as we prepare our homes and gardens for the warmer months.”

The CTF reflects the notion that more and more, workers seek out companies that echo their own beliefs and values, not just in words, but in actions both within the workplace and in the wider community. In response, numerous major corporations are adapting their charitable initiatives, empowering employees to drive support towards causes close to their hearts.

This specific program combines funding with employee-led volunteering. Teams of three or more employees choose a local charity, apply for a $1,500 grant, and then complete a two-hour volunteer activity in support of the cause.

By listening to employee input, RBC discovered the significance of giving employees a say in pinpointing and addressing causes that resonate with them.

Founded in 1937, Bethesda is one of the largest and most trusted organizations in Ontario that provides supports and services to adults and children with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities who reside in Niagara, Hamilton, Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk; and the First Nations communities of Six Nations and the Grand River and Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation and virtually across Ontario.
