Thorold’s longest running sports camp returns next week for its 30th season.

Dubbed “Super Soccer School,” by organizer and head coach, Carmen DeRose, the soccer camp welcomes kids aged six to 13.

DeRose is a former professional and college coach and instructor with the Canadian and Ontario Soccer Associations. He says the camp teaches “all technical skills.”

“This year, my good friend Dave Hesch will likely return to give me a hand,” DeRose told the ThoroldNews. Hesch is currently a soccer coach with Niagara University.

The camp usually accommodates between 20 and 45 players so the number of coaches needed depends on registration, DeRose explained. Former students include Chris Risi and Sean Bentivoglio, who excelled at soccer but became more well-known for their hockey careers.

“Right now, there are about 20 signed up, so we can handle more,” he said. “We have former students returning to help out, as well.”

The camp runs at C.E. Grose Park from Monday, July 8 through Wednesday, July 10 from 9 a.m. until noon each day. The cost is $60 per child.

Anyone interested can call DeRose at 289-407-3879.
