Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for:
  • St. Catharines - Grimsby - Northern Niagara Region

At 5:51 p.m. EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts, pea to dime size hail and heavy rain.

An east to west line of thunderstorms extending from near Grimsby to Niagara-on-the-Lake is tracking very slowly eastward. These thunderstorms are producing torrential downpours.

Locations that may be impacted include:
Niagara-on-the-Lake, Port Dalhousie, Port Weller, Virgil and St. Catharines.

Heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Fast-moving water across a road can sweep a vehicle away. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
