Quick freeze catches drivers off guard

Treacherous road conditions appeared quickly

Police, fire and ambulance services responded to a single vehicle crash on Merrittville Highway shortly after 12:30 p.m. today.

Freezing rain pellets quickly covered roads, catching drivers off guard as a thin layer of ice formed in minutes.

The driver of this vehicle escaped injury after striking the guardrail on the east side of the highway before crossing both lanes and coming to rest on the west-side guard rail. The curve on the highway at Seburn Road is notorious for being a high-collision spot.
