Park provides colourful gateway to the community (6 photos)

Thorold's newest park is in Rolling Meadows

Friends and family joined city officials as Glen Gordon officially opened Thorold's newest playground and park in the Rolling Meadows development.

Gordon cut the ribbon on the park that bears his father's name. Gilbert (Gil) Gordon Park is the welcoming view for those entering the Thorold South subdivision.

Mayor Terry Ugulini opened the ceremonies, telling the crowd, "You see more than a subdivision; you see activity, children playing; families walking dogs. This is an iconic subdivision because it incorporates walking trails and as building comes, you’re going to see more and more of that with park space.”

He added, "It’s not just about developing in Thorold; it’s about giving back to the community. And this is a great example of that."

Gordon addressed the gathering and said, "Thank you for everyone being here today. I’m sure my dad would be very proud to see this park in his name."

The Mayor presented Gordon with a certificate marking the contribution to the new community.

"On behalf of city council and our community, it is my pleasure to recognize Glen Gordon on this occasion for the grand opening of Gil Gordon Park," said Ugulini. "Presented with appreciation for your commitment to Thorold and sincere best wishes for your future success."

After cutting the ribbon Gordon spoke to the ThoroldNews.

He noted the park dominates the view as people enter the development.

"When people come to the community, I want a park on either side; a nice green space so when you arrive at your community there’s a sense of entry; a sigh of relief that you’re home."

Gordon has been working on the Rolling Meadows development for more than 19 years.

There were three generations of Gordons on hand to share in the achievement.

"I think my dad is fitting of the honour. He passed away five years ago but I think he would be proud to have his namesake attached to the park," concluded Gordon.
