NRPS welcomes new four-legged member of the force

Rudy the German Shepherd is trained in tracking down suspects and drugs

The NRPS welcomed its latest service member on Monday.

Rudy, the service's newest police dog is trained in tracking down people, as well as sniffing down drugs, and apprehending suspects.

The 16-month-old German Shepherd was sworn in at the NRPS headquarters along with his handler in front of a limited audience present in the room, due to COVID-19 protocols.

"Dogs, in general, have always held a place in our hearts," said NRPS chief MacCulloch, while commemorating handler Const. Tim Wiley's achievements in the extensive training course to become a K9 officer.

"The K9 officer and his dog are a 24-hour package. Living, working and training together. An equal partnership built completely on trust," he continued.

Const. Tim Wiley has been a member of the force for 8 years and has previously served in Welland, Port Colborne and St Catharines.
