Nominations sought for inaugural Niagara Biennial Design Awards

The Niagara Region announced the launch of a new awards program, which recognizes excellence in design of the built environment in Niagara.

Building on the previous Niagara Community Design Awards, the Niagara Biennial celebrates design excellence within the region’s unique setting.

Nominations for the awards, to be presented in spring 2020, must be submitted to Niagara Region’s Planning Services Department no later than noon on Friday, Jan. 24, 2020.

The award categories include architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, urban planning, interior design, outdoor art and student design projects. Projects must be located within the municipal boundaries of Niagara Region and be substantially completed between Jan. 1, 2016 and Dec. 31, 2019.

A jury of design professionals and educators in Niagara and the Greater Toronto-Hamilton area will evaluate the submissions.

Niagara has a rich history of design excellence. The Niagara Biennial Design Awards focuses on projects that enhance the built environment and demonstrate creativity and vision and enrich Niagara’s image. Niagara Biennial will celebrate design excellence and recognize the owners, designers and makers that contribute to raising the bar for design in Niagara.
