Niagara Region announced on Thursday that it had received the annual 'Distinguished Budget Presentations Award' from The Government Finance Officers Association for its 2020 budget.
According to the region, the document received 'top marks' in areas such as policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and communications.
"I want to congratulate Niagara Regional staff for receiving this award. Our continued success speaks to their dedication to best practices in financial planning, reporting, and transparency. It is also a testament to the collaboration and good working relationship between staff and Council," said the region's chair Jim Bradley in a statement.
The award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting and represents a significant achievement for the regional municipality.
Niagara Region said it is the eighth consecutive year it receives the award.
