Music and mini reunions happen Fridays at the Legion

Friday nights at the Legion set the stage for mini Thorold reunions, as people frequently find friendly faces from their past among the music-lovers.

Jeannie Soper, one of the executive’s newest members, has helped breathe new life into the Thorold Legion in recent years by bringing in classic rock bands like Figure Four and Vinyl Flux, each Friday night.

“It’s helped keep our doors open,” said President Eric Cuthbert, with crowds coming to hear the live music.

And, in many cases, Friday nights at the Legion set the stage for mini Thorold reunions, as people frequently find friendly faces from their past among the music-lovers.

After a brief summer hiatus, bands are back and swinging, with Back to the 80s set to perform their nostalgic play list on Sept. 27, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Vinyl Flux, multiple winner of the Niagara Music Awards Best Bar Band category, will take the Legion stage from 9 to 1 on Oct. 4.

On Oct. 18 and 19, the Legion will be one of many Thorold-wide venues participating in this year’s 18th Annual Canal Bank Shuffle, with bands playing in the upstairs hall as well as the downstairs bar on both nights.

The popular Howling Horns have been booked to play the Legion’s Halloween party on Oct. 25, from 9 to 1, followed by the Sunset Rebels on Nov. 1, from 8 to midnight.

Nov. 8 will see the return of the Pub Jugs from 9 to 1, Figure Four—featuring talented Thorold native Michael Chess—on Nov. 9 from 9:30 to 1:30, The Travelling Beer Bellies on Nov. 15, from 8 till midnight, and the Stickman Band on Nov. 22 from 9 to 1 a.m.

Hard Rock Hooligans on Nov. 23 (from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.) and the Lisa Klassen Band (from 8 p.m. till midnight) will round out the bands for November.

Thorold’s own Veranda Beach will perform from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Dec. 6, and The Rockets are booked from 8 p.m. till midnight on Dec. 13.
