BIA art contest winners were rewarded Saturday for their entries in the first My Mother is a Work of Art contest

It was a mother of a contest.

Diana D’Intino, chair of the BIA marketing committee, announced the winners of the first annual My Mother is a Work of Art contest, and handed out prizes at Biscotti Café Saturday.

Inspired by their moms, artists of all ages submitted entries in the form of paintings, poems, marker drawings, and songs.

“We had some fantastic art,” said D’Intino. "The work was phenomenal, and it was really tough to choose the winners.”

Megan Hebert won a prize for her exceptional lifelike marker drawing entitled, Mommy and Me.

Jennifer Gruhl’s painting of a vine-covered hand, called In the Garden, also won.

Four-year-old Haille Holliston’s voice was captured in the car, singing about her mom, Mae Holliston, which clinched the audio category prize.

Laura Nelson’s poem, My Mother is a Work of Art also won a prize.

Prizes included fresh flowers from A Yellow Flower Basket, a Shannon Passero necklace from Bocchinfuso Funeral Home, a Colouring with Mom gift pack from the Thorold Public Library, a gift card from Chapel Street Designs, and a dinner out with mom from Laura Lea Guitard of Niagara Shop & Dine Historic Thorold
