Man seriously injured in Niagara Falls robbery: Thorold duo charged

On January 29, 2020, at approximately 12:15pm uniform officers from the 2 District – Niagara Falls office of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to an assault at a hotel in the area of Lundy's Lane and Kalar Road in Niagara Falls.

The initial investigation by responding officers determined that a male victim had attended the hotel to meet an acquaintance.  When the victim entered a room he found three persons present, a male and two females.  A masked man exited the bathroom and pointed a handgun at the victim, demanding money. The victim was struck in the head with the handgun. The victim was able to flee the room.

The hotel room where incident had occurred was contained by uniform officers and the NRPS Emergency Task Unit was requested to attend the scene.

The victim was treated by Niagara Emergency Medical Services Paramedics, and transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Two men and two women were subsequently arrested.

Wyatt Scarbo (22 years) of Thorold, Kayla Flatley (32 years) of Thorold and Julia Elaine McMaster (26 years) of St. Catharines have all been charged with the alleged Criminal Code of Canada offences of:

- Robbery with a Firearm

- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000         

Mitchell Jack Raynard (31 years) of Niagara Falls is charged with the alleged Criminal Code of Canada offences of:

- Robbery with a Firearm

- Point Firearm

- Disguise with Intent

- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000  

- Possession of a Firearm Contrary to a Prohibition Order        

The scene is being held pending the execution of a search warrant.

All four accused are being held for a bail hearing.  The bail hearing will occur on January 30, 2020, at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.

The victim has since been treated and released from hospital.
