Holiday light festival coming to Thorold at the end of the month

Instead of a Santa parade, the city will decorate several spots around town

While COVID-19 may have stopped Santa Claus with his holiday helpers to parade downtown, city hall intends to make it known that it's the season in the city.

Later this month, light displays will go up at Thorold Firestation 1, at the top part of the rood of the Thorold Community Arena, the new downtown light posts as well as the Batlle of Beaverdams Park Entrance.

The original plan was to hold the festival in the park, an idea that was thwarted over insurance concerns.

The festival will also see a letterbox go up outside the Thorold Credit Union for mail to Santa as well as a virtual inbox, a citywide house decorating contest and map, a BIA scavenger hunt, and food drive, as well as other events.

The duration of the festival is November 28 - January 8th.
