Historical Thorold landmark one step closer to becoming concert- and wedding venue

Interior of Beaverdams Church has grown after balcony from 1879 covered by a ceiling was restored

The Friends of Beaverdams Church are one step closer to realizing their dream of a local concert- and wedding space in the historic building after opening up the gallery through lifting off the ceiling.

"It is energizing. The public has not seen the upstairs since it was sectioned off 1879. This is a major milestone," said member David Cowan to Thoroldnews.com.

The society bought the old church in 2014 and have since been chipping away at improvements that the group ultimately hopes to see the historic building getting a new lease on life.

The work on the interior began a year ago, as the society announced its vision for the building.

Cowan says seeing the open interior from the newly resurfaced indoor balcony brings many options to mind.

"The next thing we will be looking at is the wiring. It will be a project for this spring. We have even consulted with an audio person to make sure we are installing plugs at the right places for the stage."

Apart from speaker- and concert series that can be hosted in the church, Cowan said Beaverdams Church would be an ideal spot for local weddings.

"The church is ideally suited. It is a quiet section surrounded by three sides of water. There are endless photo opportunities around there."
