Hawks hold off Meteors

Junior B action in Thorold last night saw the Thorold Blackhawks edge the visiting Fort Erie Meteors by a 3-2 score.

Thorold took a one-goal lead in the first, added two more in the second and then hung on for the win as Fort Erie made it close. The Meteors notched one in the second period and another in the third to make it an exciting finish.

Both goalies faced a deluge of shots as Thorold fired 47 shots at Jacob Hearne in the Meteors' goal while they hammered Chase Grsic in the Hawks' goal with 50 shots.

Brad Ditillio, Nicholas Rubino and Mari Zitella scored for Thorold. Owen Holmes and Ethan Mercer each picked up  two assists for Thorold. 

The game's three stars were Grsic, Holmes and Mercer. 

Thorold’s next home game is Thursday Jan. 2, at 7:07 p.m. in the Frank Doherty Arena.
