Fundraising dinner hosts eye surgeon who treated kids in Gaza

Dr. Yasser Khan (MD, FRCSC), an eye surgeon returning from treating children in Gaza, will be hosted at a “Reunite Our Families” fundraising dinner for five Niagara families on Saturday, March 30, by the Niagara Gaza Relief Foundation (NGRF) of the Niagara Palestine Coalition (NPC).

The dinner is at the Robertson Hall, 85 Church St., in St. Catharines and cosponsored by the Niagara Folk Arts Multicultural Centre, Kabul Farms Supermarket, Trinity United Church (Grimsby), and others. This is the second dinner after tickets were sold out for a Feb. 24 fundraiser.

Reservations are by email [email protected] and tickets are $45 for adults, $25 for children. Dinner is authentic Palestinian cuisine by chef Alaa Hejji, halal with vegan options.

The event includes a bazaar (cash or e-transfer) and silent auction with the following vendors:

6-6:45 p.m.: Registration, bazaar, henna, photobooth, and silent auction.

6:45-7:30 p.m.: Speeches by Dr. Yasser Khan (MD. FRCSC) and families' representative Louy Shaath.

7:40 p.m.: Dinner and iftar (breaking Ramadan fast) with maghrib i.e. evening prayer in basement.

The Niagara Palestine Coalition was founded in the wake of the October crisis in Palestine in 2023 and has members from diverse backgrounds including Palestinians, Jews, academics, union activists, students, youth, and retirees of different faiths across the Niagara region of Ontario. It has organized weekly demonstrations in Niagara on Sundays as well as fundraisers and educational events.
