Freezing rain warning in effect for:

  • Niagara Falls - Welland - Southern Niagara Region
  • St. Catharines - Grimsby - Northern Niagara Region

Freezing rain is expected of occurring.

Periods of freezing rain are expected overnight into early Wednesday morning.

A band of snow mixed with ice pellets will move through the regions tonight with 2 to 5 cm of snow. The snow and ice pellets will change over to or become mixed with a period of freezing rain overnight tonight. The freezing rain may last several hours before changing over to rain early Wednesday morning.

The freezing rain is associated with a Colorado low tracking northeast across Lake Huron and Georgian Bay Wednesday.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.
