Chorus Niagara will hold the 13th annual Singathon fundraiser again this year at "the most famous food court in the world." Singathon is a continuous five-hour marathon of music and fun that takes place at the Seaway Mall in Welland (on Saturday, Feb. 9) where our YouTube viral fame began - Chorus Niagara's performance has over 52 million views. The public is invited to attend this free concert with celebrity conductors including Niagara Ice Dogs Mascot BONES! Each year several community leaders take up the baton to conduct the 100 voices of Chorus Niagara with some tips from Artistic Director Robert Cooper. Be dazzled as our guest conductors are taught the basic methods of conducting and then let loose to conduct the chorus on their own. The choir will sing selections from their repertoire including the famed Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah.

The sweet sounds of the Chorus Niagara Children's Choir (Chamber Choir) will entertain from 12 -12:30 p.m.

The Singathon is a major fundraiser for Chorus Niagara, each year netting in excess of $50,000 through pledges made to choir members. This generous community support assists the Chorus in presenting programs of inspiring music in our new home at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre in St. Catharines.

"Singathon is a great event for the community and for Chorus Niagara," says Chorus Niagara communications officer Trish Crawford. "The five-hour marathon of song provides an opportunity for the community to hear the 100-voice chorus perform selections from our large and varied repertoire, free of charge, in the welcoming environment of the Seaway Mall. The Chorus Niagara Children’s Choir, who perform at noon, along with celebrity guest conductors are highlights of the day. Donations gathered by the 100 members of the Chorus provide much-needed funds that allow Chorus Niagara to continue its performances of classical, choral excellence for Niagara audiences. Chorus Niagara is continually appreciative of the Seaway Mall for hosting this fun and musical day!"

Donations can be made in person at the Singathon, to any choir member or easily and securely through Canada Helps.
