To help you honour your dad, or the significant father figure in your life, the Thorold BIA is hosting a contest, called, My Father Rocks.

Contestants can “paint a rock as a tribute to your significant father figure and submit it by June 11 to win a great prize for that rocking dude,” said BIA Marketing Chair, Diana D’Intino.

Rocks can be painted at home “or at one of our painting sessions in downtown Thorold. Bring your own rock and we’ll supply the rest.”

While all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate, only one entry is allowed per artist.

The size limit for rocks is 4x3x1 inches. All entries must include a description of how the painted rock relates to the father figure, and must be accompanied by an entry form, available at www.thoroldbia.com/artcontest. Artwork will be judged according to age groups.

Pre-registration is required for all painting workshops, which take place in downtown Thorold on the following dates:

  • June 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Da Bomb Bath Co., 59 Front St. S. (for all ages)
  • June 8 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Chapel Street Designs, 46B Front St. S. (for adults only)
  • June 10 from 2 to 5 p.m. during Makerspace at the Thorold Public Library, 14 Ormond St. N.

All workshops are BYOR (bring your own rock).

Painted rocks and entry forms can be dropped off at The Thorold Public Library, or at A Yellow Flower Basket, 50 Front St. N.

The final day for submissions is June 11, with judging taking place on June 12. Judges’ decisions are final, and prize presentations will be held during Makerspace at the Library on June 15 at 4:15 p.m.

The deadline to pick up entries is June 15, said D’Intino, “so you can give them to your dads on Father's Day,” Sunday, June 16.

Contact D’Intino for more information at 905-227-4051, or email [email protected]

Entry forms and more details are available online.
