Many people who need warm clothing for this coming winter will receive it, thanks to Darryl Forten.

The Thorold resident, assisted by Ed Ciprian, hosted his 5th annual Coat Drive in Thorold Saturday, collecting more than 220 items in the TCAG parking lot on behalf of Niagara Gives Back.

Through the charity, Niagara Gives Back president Forten told the Thorold News, “We help established organizations that are in need,” including Bridges for Autism, YWCA Women's Shelters, the Niagara Children's Centre, Niagara Region Sexual Assault Centre, Hope Centre in Welland, Community Care of St. Catharines and Thorold, Southridge Shelter of St. Catharines, Salvation Army Men's Shelter in St. Catharines, Community Care of West Niagara, and Ozanam Centre Soup Kitchen.

Forten said that students and staff from Mother Teresa Elementary School in St. Catharines donate “a large portion of our coats every year,” adding that, “Most will go to Community Care of St. Catharines and Thorold.”
