Niagara Region has declared outbreaks of COVID-19 in four senior’s homes.

Rapelje Lodge and Royal Rose Place in Welland are both listed, the latter on Tuesday along with the Seasons Retirement community, that have had two cases confirmed by a Hamilton lab.

Listed in the latest update is also Lundy Manor in Niagara Falls, that had an outbreak declared on March 30.

In a comment to The St Catharines Standard, Dr. Mustafa Hirji, Niagaras acting medical officer of health, said the outbreak was declared at Rapelje Lodge and Royal Rose before lab results confirmed that COVID-19 was present at the home.

Niagara Health, responsible for the hospitals in the region, are now reporting 75 cases of COVID-19 in their hospitals, with 15 listed as being in hospital.

The number differs from the region’s reported 61 cases.

The organizations have said the discrepancy is due to different times of data collection, with Niagara Region Public Health adding they only use data of Niagara residents.

Niagara Health is also the only agency to currently report deaths in the area, as the region has said they will withhold that information for privacy reasons.
