The city of Thorold is closing several facilities in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic that currently has seen one case confirmed in Niagara.
City hall said they partially activated its Emergency Operations Centre, while implementing best practices to protect health and safety of ther public and staff.
Effective Friday, March 13, 2020 at 4:30 p.m. the following facilities will be closed to public access until Monday, April 6, 2020 at 8:30 a.m. (with option to extend, if
necessary):
• Thorold Community Arenas
• Thorold Public Library
• Ontario Paper Thorold Seniors Centre
• Lock 7 Viewing Centre, including the Museum
• Darlene Ryan Port Robinson Community Centre
• Allanburg Community Centre
At this time, City Hall, Operations Centre and the Cemetery will be open for normal business operations.
In order to reduce the risk of exposure, all public meetings, including the March 24, 2020
Council meeting, Committees of Council meetings, Thorold Sports Runway of Recognition 14th Annual Gala Awards Ceremony and Public Information Centres will be postponed.
“Health and safety of our community and City staff are of the utmost importance to us. We are taking all necessary precautions and adjusting our city operations to assist in the containment of COVID-19. City staff recognizes that the closures of some facilities may affect our community however, essential services are operational and will continue to be available,” said Thorold CAO Manoj Dilwaria in a comment.
