Bantams let opener slip away

Gavin Brooks did all the damage for Napanee.

The Thorold Impact Promotions Blackhawks Bantam BB team hosted the Napanee Stars in game one of the OMHA Bantam BB Finals yesterday.

Thorold would open the scoring early in the first period on a goal by Brian Loney with assists going to Jack Hale and Ogo Ogunkeye.

But Napanee took over the game from that point, scoring 4 unanswered goals, Gavin Brooks scored a natural hat with 3 goals in a row. Carter Mckee advanced the score to 4-1.

Thorold replaced starting goalie Noah DiMaurizio with Michael Leblanc, hoping to spark the team. Near the end of the second period Hale scored on a pass from Luka Radovanovic and Curtis Isherwood.

Thorold came out strong in the third period but just couldn’t solve Napanee goalie Ryan Aldridge.  Brooks would add his fourth goal of the night in to the empty net to seal the win for Napanee, with a final score of 5-2.

Game two happens today (Sunday, March 17) at 2:30 p.m. in Napanee.
