The Film House at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre has now opened applications for the 24/25 Youth Film Club, a program designed for secondary school aged youth in Niagara that gives them a chance to roll up their sleeves and get involved in animating The Film House with programs and events that matter to young people today. Applications close on Fri 14 June.

The goal of the Youth Film Club is to build a film culture for and with Niagara youth, engaging youth in developing skills that connect film programming to current issues and perspectives that matter to young people. The inaugural Youth Film Club included a diverse group of 15 youth from across the Niagara region.

Highlights of the first year of the Youth Film Club included the $5 Matinee Takeover in January 2024 and Movie Musical Madness, a weekend of movie musicals and interactive activities in April 2024.

"I appreciate how this club has amplified my voice as a young person,” says 23/24 member Malik.

The 24/25 Youth Film Club will meet monthly from October 2024 to May 2025 where they will assist in developing the monthly film schedule, develop and host special screening events and provide creative input into marketing campaigns. Members also receive special perks such as a VIP Film Membership that includes exclusive FREE entry to any film at The Film House all year (*subject to ratings, of course) and the club counts toward volunteer hours.

"It has been really fun sharing the responsibility of programming The Film House with the members of the Youth Film Club,” says Diana Moser, Programming Associate. “Our inaugural Youth Film Club were an insightful group and we hope our team inspired them to see new possibilities in the arts."

Applications are now open to all youth of secondary school age in Niagara and due on Friday 14 June 2024.  A group of youth will be selected for the 24/25 club running from October 2024 through to May 2025.
