Anthony Gomes kicks off first of three great April concerts

First of three April shows featuring local and international stars to hit Thorold

Canadian-born international recording artist Anthony Gomes shook the walls of Holy Rosary Hall when he brought his award-winning rock-blues band to Thorold Sunday.

Gomes is a veteran guitar wizard, singer songwriter, originally from Toronto. His tour, supporting his album Peace, Love and Loud Guitars was welcomed by enthusiastic fans last night. That album was named the top rock-blues album of the year in 2018, outdistancing such iconic stars as Buddy Guy, Joe Bonamassa, Larkin Poe, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

Local artist Riley Michaels and his band opened for Gomes. Michaels was named blues artist of the year in 2018 by the Niagara Music Awards.

The evening was punctuated by a blistering encore when Gomes invited the 18-year-old Michaels to join him onstage.

Next up, the Ghost Town Blues Band from Memphis will appear with Kitchener's Soulstack at an April 18 show at the Moose & Goose. Then, talented Phildadelphia rising star saxophonist, singer, songwriter and guitarist, Vanessa Collier returns to Holy Rosary on April 28.
