Been bitten by the acting bug, but don’t know where to start?

The friendly folks at Thorold Community Theatre can help.

The well-known local thespians are preparing to present their latest comedy, Self-Help, by Canada’s most beloved playwright, Norm Foster, and invite anyone who’s interested in acting to attend auditions.

TCT is looking to cast four characters, Theresa Chubak told the Thorold News:  a man and a woman in their 40s or 50s, a talent agent in her 40s, and a maid “who’s around the same age, or younger.”

While performers who have comedic timing would be ideal, “No special skills are required,” she said; “just a love for farce and comedy. Even if they’ve never acted before, they’re welcome to try out. It’s the only way to break your way into show business.”

The show won’t run until late March or early April, she said, allowing actors “lots of time to learn their lines.”

Anyone who “wants to come and see what try-outs are like” is also welcome, she added.

“Come see what community theatre is all about. We also need stage hands, decorators and people who can help us set up.”

According to Chubak, Self-Help is about “A couple of Canadian actors turned self-help gurus, who find an unusual way to put a spark in their marriage.”

Auditions are being held on Sunday, Jan. 12 from 2-4 p.m. and Tuesday, Jan. 14 from 7-9 p.m. at Trinity United Church, 15 Pine Street South in Thorold.

If needed, call backs will be held Thursday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m.
