Downtown Thorold apartment fire under investigation

A 55-year-old man is dead after an early morning fire in a residential unit on Front Street in Thorold.

It was at approximately 5:30 on Monday morning that first responders were called to a fire on Front and Albert Street in Thorold after reports of a fire.

Police say the units were evacuated as fire crews fought the blaze.

‘Further investigation led to the discovery of a deceased 55 year old male inside one of the units,’ police said in a statement released on Monday morning.

At this time, the incident remains under investigation by officers with the 1 District Detective Office. 

No other injuries have been reported.

The office of the fire marshal has also been brought in.

On Monday morning the alley around the building was closed off with yellow police tape as investigators kept working on the scene.
